I've been working on a Michael Buble version of the Classic Tony Renis song "Quando Quando Quando"...
which here is done in a Slow Bossa Style vs a Samba .....heres a taste......
There will be few more tracks to be added and some mastering....completly recorded into the Ketron MidJay w/Roland A37 controller & Vocals w Shure SM58 Mic using a smf backing track foundation with my own litle secret recipe played & mixed in here & there to give it some spice .

enjoy

Excellent! If the Midjay had an internal style like that one, I would buy one right now!

Awesome Donny! I love Michael Buble's version and you're really sounding great. My idea of heaven includes a nice slow Bossa.

Last night, channel surfing during an 'American Idol' commercial, I caught a Michael Buble concert being aired during a PBS fund raiser .... This guy is a TALENTED vocalist (but as my wife said "don't ask him to dance" ) ... I wanted to finish watching 'Idol" so I taped Buble and watched it later ... a really good show ... And what really impressed me was how YOUNG the members of his big band are ... it was great to see such young, excellent, talent ...

Tony, what I like about him is that he takes chances and completly gives a familiar song a new flavor & arrangement which is soooo nice to the ears....did you hear him do "SWAY" I love the "Stop Dead" Ending part....very kool
glad you enjoyed the show.

Donny: Nice 'Buble style' vocal rendition of Quando Quando Quando. For comparison, here's an audio clip of the original Michael Buble version:

Michael Buble: Quando Quando Quando

The only thing missing is Nelly Furtado

Dnj ... I agree with you and am all for posting our efforts ... There's a TON of stuff I have saved and listenedto from this board ...but I find it VERY interesting that different things happen when someone posts a song:
1) there is little or no reaction or feedback...(this often depends on who posts the song) ... this can be quite frustratiing to the poster ... even if a listener wants to give 'constructive criticism' but doesn't want to do it on the forum, most folks here show their e-mail add's so a 'private' review can be made ...

2) feedback is given, sometimes in a coarse manner, and even if the 'performer' isn't upset by it, some third party gets upset and voices his/her 'criticism of the critic' and a war of words breaks out ...

3) people compliment the performer, even if it might not be warranted, which doesn't help if the performer is looking for some 'guidance'...

Now I am NOT one to want to see people's efforts torn apart, and their feelings shattered, in public ... so I would suggest a 'private' e-mail to the person if you have some criticism ... Lord knows I have posted some stuff here that wasn't up to the level of some of you others, and I rec'd some private e-mails that helped ...

However, if I post something and ask for your comments, I REALLY want to hear them, and if they are posted here, then fine, I asked for it ... BUT ... that doesn't mean we shouldn't be civil about it ... (careful, I'm BIG, but I bruise easily )

So, I guess with all this verbiage, I am saying "c'mon, girls and guys, post your efforts, and to the rest of us, have the courtesy to acknowledge them, and if we have some criticism, BE CIVIL, OR BE PRIVATE !!!"
keep makin' beautiful music, and let us share it ... remember, beauty is in the EAR of the beholder ...

Smooth Donny.....very smooth!

As Eddie says though, finished far too soon for my liking!

Don't know how you are recording lately but your stuff is getting better and better, crystal clear and really 'warm'. I like it!

The MidJay and you seem to really fit well together. Can't wait to hear the full version.
Best wishes

Hi donny,
sounds great, I really luv your version.
The backing is brilliant.

I'm really intrigued.

You mentioned it's a smf, I tend to automatically think commercial midifile when the word smf is mentioned, but it's not is it ?

Is the basic backing actually a keyboard style recorded as a midifile, to which you're adding additional tracks like maybe the strings & brass?? for that extra realism.

I'm only waffling, but it's always great to pick up tips on how to improve one's own music from pro's.

best wishes
Rikki

Rikki....
I sometimes use a smf as a foundation..... other times I will play totaly live on some songs using a style file, change instruments & delete tracks, then play my own additional tracks, solos, to give it my own flair, & beef up the overall sound, followed by my vocals, then add efx, tweaking, editing, and mastering before its finished to my liking. I could of went into a studio but I wanted to do this project totaly on the Midjay to see what turns up, so far so good & more to follow in the coming months.
Each project song is processed totaly different....I'm hoping to add a female artist to the mix on this one also.

Rikki you have one of the Best Units on the market in the KETRON SD-1....make some beautiful music & share it with us also....Good Luck!

Hi Donny,
thank you for the info.

Unfortunately I'm more of a technology junkie rather than a musician. I just like to potter round with keyboard styles, and now for the sd1, I'm also learning to use Emc's style factory & styleworks ( for editing/creating styles).
I had some yammie piano styles that I really liked, so I'm slowly converting them across.
Conversions don't always go smoothly.
It's keeping me busy.

I'll leave performing to talented musician's like yourself.

Thats my 22yr old daughter singing backup, a Solo Hip Hop Artist in her own right & has recorded with many other Artists in the last few years. She really added the perfect flavor to this track.

We want to hear at least another 10 minutes of this one. Your daughter has added the final touch of magic and both your voices are wonderfully clear. The recording technique is spot on.
If you make any CD's like this, I'll buy each and every one.
What do we have to do to get you to stop holding out?

Thanx for the listen....

The rest of the song is beyond my greatest expectations...she really takes off after the bridge & it was a pleasure singing a duet with her At this time I dont want to give away the store .....but this second CD project of mine will be basically a Standard collection of songs with a few surpises & some of my favorites...it seems to be the trend these days, probably 13-15 songs total.......
I only have five done so far....
Once I'm done I will make them available.

Donny, really impressive instrumental accomp arrangement & beautifully delivered vocals by both you and your daughter. I find your father/daughter duet matches Nat & Natalie, and Frank & Nancy pairings. This is your best song production work I've heard by a long shot. Bravo!

Ok, did the original smf come from Tune1000, Midi-Hits, or another commerically produced SMF manufacterer? Please share what you did to the smf to tweak (enhance) it, and also, what parts/tracks were added (played & recorded live by you)? Also what software programs & hardware were used to record and mix midi tracks & vocals? Thanks in advance, as discovering these things may help the rest of us here to better our recording skills as well.

Ok Donny, now please tell us "When When When" we'll get to hear the completed song.

Donny ... just a tease, but an excellent tease ... there is nothing like the thrill of a parent performing with a child ... when our son was in high school he studied electric bass ... we played a couple of gigs together as a duo and with my band ... it was GREAT ... unfortunately college and dental school swayed him from continuing with the bass ...
Have fun performing with her while you can ...

Scott, Thankyou, without devuldging some of my secrets which I rather not expose on a public forum....I can only tell you as I did in my original post......Equipment used to record: MidJay, Roland A37 controller, Shure SM58 Mic, Acid Pro 3.0, Sound Forge XP studio 5. I wanted to show that you really dont need alot of Fancy Expensive Gear to produce a decent sounding recording......just a little practice,
a bit of talent & the love for music!

Donny, the fact that you consider them "secrets you'd rather not devulge on a public forum" certainly has raised my interest further now.

As you yourself often state, sharing & learning from each other is what this forum is all about, so I only hope you'll have a change of heart, and share with us your secret arranger keyboard recording/production techniques which I assume contributed to making this newest song the most impressive pro level sounding song heard from you to date. Many of us would love to learn from you here. - Scott

Yep, Donny, that sounds very good! Although, too short. I was just getting the hang of the song. Very good singing from both and the accompaniment sounds real.

Now, I gotta find out what "quando" means.

Although doin the song in a slowr tempo isinteresting, I didn't really liked it, thought it had a lot of empty space in it.
Second time is much better, the voices compliment each other nicely.
